Alexandra of Denmark was born Alexandra Caroline Marie Charlotte Louise Julia on 1 December 1844 in Copenhagen. She was the sister of George I of the Hellenes and of Dagmar, later wife of Tsar Alexander III and Empress of Russia, both of whom are included in these CdVs by the Southwell Brothers.

She married Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, on 10 March 1863 at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle; they had six children, the second of which, George, was later crowned King George V of the United Kingdom. She was said to be tolerant of her husband's many mistresses.

She became Queen in 1901 when her husband succeeded to the throne as King Edward VII on the death of Queen Victoria. She died at Sandringham after a heart attack on 20 November 1925.
